 So it´s another paused project restarted. It was back in november 2020 when I last painted something for my slaanesh aligned genestealer cult. Having finished just a single purestrain genestealer so far I have been wanting to add a few more for some time. Finally I had both the models and motivation to paint them. BTW I working on a cult limo too. Hoping to get it ready in the near future.

Being plastics from Space Hulk and painted mostly with contrasts

these will most certainly not win me any prises. But they fit in quite well

with the rest of the cult.

50% of 2nd Mutant band

 Slowly digging myself out of the not-getting-anything-painted hole I dug myself during february and march. I put some new mutants together weeks ago and finally found motivation to splash paint on them. And I really mean splash - it´s mostly contrasts and in very quick manner. These will eventually form the second mutant band for my Genestealer Cult Army. Need to finish the other three muties. By the way - here is the first band.

Big head, Leggy and Mantis

Big head comes with over grown head and a tentacle. Leggy has head

swap with something alien and an extra leg. Mantis has an insect had and

strange skin color. All armed with hand weapons of different types.

Community to the rescue

 I haven´t gotten any models painted in a few weeks now. Got carried away by some other activities and now I´m having hard time getting my painting motivation back. What helped me to write this short update is that I got lucky and won the lottery draw for last years Oldhammer Forum legacy project.

For year 2020 the theme was genestealer cult and spot color was green. As mentioned the ´winner´ is chosen on random and the luck chap gets all the models for himself. The only thing I´ve done with these is basing. Othervise they are as they arrived.

Mutated purestrains with wings, a couple of hybribds, an ork hybrid, beastman,

squat hybrid and a brood brother.

Now I need to create a scenario where they can be used.

New mutants

 I hate to show unpainted models but I´m making an excepting here. Mainly due to the fact that I´ve been buried in work and haven´t had time and energy to paint pretty much anything. What I´ve managed is to build six new mutant models for Slaanesh alligned Genestealer Cult.

Genestealer Patriarch

 It´s been a while since I posted anything GS related. My Cult army has been without a leader but just the other day I found time to finish this Bob Olley patriach. There are only two oldhammer patriarch models that I know of. This and the one that sits on a throne. The running one suits gaming purposes better in my opinion. And is less expensive. Check this posting for his Cult Coven.

Painted mostly with contrast. Some regular paints for metals and higlights.

With those long arms it´s pretty hard to get a really good picture of him.

Now I need to get him a limousine. And a few more purestrains as there´s only one now.

Slaaneshian Chaos Hounds

 In the WD116 there was an example Genestealer cult army in which the Patriarch had been blessed with the Chaos Reward of eight Fleshhounds. Even though the army pic on the back cover of the magazine actually shows eight Chaos Hounds. Not being a very creative person myself I copied the idea for my Cult and added six Chaos Hounds to it´s ranks.

I placed the hounds on square 25x25 bases as I´m thinking about building a small chaos force for 3rd ed. Fantasy Battle and these could be used there too. I´ve written about Chaos Beastmasters here.

Spike back, Flayed dog, Lizard face, Two heads, Another Flayed one and Scorpion tail. All painted with contrasts with some regular paints for higlights and details. Themed to go together with Coven members, Brood Brothers and Beastmen.

Lazy July

It´s been a few weeks since my previous posting. And a very lazy hobby month so far. There are severel WIPs on my painting station at the moment but these three chaos hounds are really the on things that I´ve completed as of lately.

When I get their number to six they will join the Genestealer Cult Army as a chaos gift to one of the coven members - perhaps the Patriarch himself. I´ve put them on square bases as I´m going to using them in WFB too. Check out my article on Chaos Beastmasters if you share my interest on animal handlers.

The first one is a reptilian headed one with hooved legs. His main color is Shyish Purple applied in multiple thin layers. Second hound is Black Templar body and Iyanden Yellow spikes. The flayed dog was painted with thinned Volupus Pink.

Hoping to complete some beastmen and something big and horned in the near future...

First purestrain and another hybrid

Slaanesh alligned Cult army growns with a single purestrain genestealer and a 2nd generation hybrid. I´m planning on having a grand total of perhaps three purestrains and half a dozen hybrids all together. So trying to keep this project from growing too big for me.

 The hybrid I like, the purestrain not that much. I might have to repaint him. Or some parts of him at least. I don´t think the yellowish claws work out as I wanted them to do. And that skin could be a bit more pale I think.

As I lack proper hybrid arms this guy was thrown together with what parts I could find.

I have no idea where that sword arm is originally from. 

The old IG plastic arms work well enough for these hybrids too.

Late generation hybdrids

After getting the Cult´s cannon fodder done it was time to work on the leaders. First coven members are the magus and two third generation hybrids. Both hybrids are pretty human like with two hands and no claws. But they do have their differences.

From left to right: a 3rd generation hybrid with missile launcher, magus with a staff 

and a 3rd generation hybrid with auto pistol. And no, they won´t be riding that rhino. That´s just a background for the pic.

The big boy on the left provides the Cult with some long range fire power. He is a drone with no ovipositor or psychic powers. His skin bears a slight pinkish hue that shows his ancestry. The hybrid on the right has a big cranium and I think he is a psyker. For that reason he is armed with just a auto pistol as he tends to stay out of harms way and use his abilities from afar.

I´ve tried to keep the same color scheme I used for Brood Brothers. Purple clothes, yellow armor, metal weapons and equipment plus black boots, pouches etc.

Now I need to get myself a patriarch, a couple of purestrains and some limos. 

Band of Beastmen

Boosting the ranks of my Genestealer Cult Army is a six strong band of beastmen. Or slaangors as the Slaanesh beastmen are also called. Pastel colors, black leather and some pink/purple to tie the band together.

That Slugman is one bizarre sculpt. It even has a second face in it´s chest. 

Extra head and headless mutations perhaps.

Perhaps some IG next. I have something biggish waiting to be glued together and primed.

Brood Brothers done

With two Brood Brother bands painted and me starting to run out of IG models it´s time to move on. Next it´s going to be a couple of beastmen and then I´m going to start with genestealer hybrids, purestrains etc.

These models were painted with Citadel Contrasts as was the band number one. White base coat, Magis purple clothes, Snakebite leather for gaiters, belts and pouches, Nazdreg yellow armor and helmet, Black Templar shoes and Guilliman flesh hands and face. Metal parts are Leadbelcher washed with agrax.

 Brood Brother band number two. All six as is the sacred number of Slaanesh.

 Over sized and pretty corny - quite oldhammerish I believe.

Wanted to do my version of the Brood Brother from WD 116.

Carried away by Brood Brothers

It happened again. Painted something and got sucked into paiting more of the same stuff. This time it was Genestealer Cult Brood Brothers. After finishing my Legacy Coven 2020 model I noticed I still had some Olley guardmen that I was not going to include to my IG force. And from the WD116 Genestealer list I learned that a Slaanesh worshipping brood brother band is just six models strong. So why not. Plus I wanted to experiment a little with the contrast paints I had bought but not used that much.

I wanted to honor this color scheme from WD116. The same issue also holds the genestealer cult army list.

White contrast paint base. Black Templar shoes/boots, Magos Purple jumpsuits, Nazdreg Yellow armor, Guilliman Flesh face + hands and Leadbelcher for metal parts. Some added shading with Agrax and that´s it.

Very fast and slaaneshian enough for me. Six models in less than 24h is a good pace for me. In my opinion contrasts worked really nice for this kind of paint job. I can imagine myself building a small cult army painted with contrasts.

 Slaanesh workshippers cost 40 points/six model band. Brood brothers are affected by frenzy but are immune to other psychological effects.

Perhaps a beastmen band next then...
