Lazy July

It´s been a few weeks since my previous posting. And a very lazy hobby month so far. There are severel WIPs on my painting station at the moment but these three chaos hounds are really the on things that I´ve completed as of lately.

When I get their number to six they will join the Genestealer Cult Army as a chaos gift to one of the coven members - perhaps the Patriarch himself. I´ve put them on square bases as I´m going to using them in WFB too. Check out my article on Chaos Beastmasters if you share my interest on animal handlers.

The first one is a reptilian headed one with hooved legs. His main color is Shyish Purple applied in multiple thin layers. Second hound is Black Templar body and Iyanden Yellow spikes. The flayed dog was painted with thinned Volupus Pink.

Hoping to complete some beastmen and something big and horned in the near future...

More cult beastmen

I wasn´t planning on making another beastman band for upcoming Geneatealer cult army. And then I ended up having two extra beastmen both of which are such nice sculpts that I just had to include them. Which means it´s off to ebay again to get me four more to have another group of six. As the Brood Brothers are carrying the the Cults banner I felt that the Beastmen need a flag of their own.

Fish faced banner bearer and single horned goat face. Paited mostly with contrasts.

Yes, that banner is a bit profane but they are old school Slaaneshian you know.

Summoned Daemonette for Genestealer cult army

When I kind of accidentally began building a Oldhammer Genestealer Cult army I knew I want it to be Slaaneshian. Slaanesh has always been my favorite chaos deity. And to bring more of that chaos into the force I´ve added now a single summoned Daemonette. Acquired this model through a trade and painted him/her/it to match the few cultist I completed earlier.

"Forward you puny mortalssss!".

Contrast paints over White Seer base. Pink, black, blue and white contrasts. Some leadbelcher for metal details. Agrax for added shading and regular white for highlights. Black leather and pink skin ties this model to the rest of the still small force.

The model is named Suckflesh in the catalogue. Rest of the daemonettes have rather nice names too.

The daemonette range of ´88 from WD106. Because of the stance and mohican hair I would say that Suckflesh was sculpted by Jes Goodwin for sure.

Space Elves so far

LM requested a gruop shot of all my painted RT Eldar and today I´m fullfilling that request. These have never been any sort of main project for me but more like a take-a-break-from-something-else-and-paint-a-couple type of thing. The very first were painted late in 2018 and there are now 25 painted models all together.

I have a few space elf models still left, most notably a dreadnought and a war walker. And I´d like to get me a jet bike or two someday.

Space elves come in threes

To be exact this time it´s four models. But only two of them are space elves to be precice. Anyway I have added a trooper, a heavy wepon and it´s operator and a robot to my RT era eldar force. Too big to be called a kill team and too small for an army I think I need to take a group shot of everyone in the near future.

First commissar cadet

This might get expensive as I´m going to need a grand total of 10 commissar models to complete a RT era IG commissar training squad. For cadets I´m planning to use the models that don´t have medals or other decorations on them. One will be converted to act as a standard bearer. And will we be the leader ofcourse. Color scheme will be the same desert theme as for the rest of my IG force. I´m using blue hat tops and epaulets on cadets to seperate them from normal commissars.

Anyway, here´s the first example.

 Placed him infront of a very wip rhino. Those blue details give him a NKVDish look, don´t they.
I´m off to winter vacation so next update will be in march.

Commander on Bike

Roughly two months ago I finished a commissar on bike model but ran out of Desert Yellow spray I use to prime my IG. Having gotten resupplies recently here´s the guy that the commissar will be following on the field of battle.

 RT era bike body with modern handle bar, headlight and gear shift.

 The driver himself is rough rider legs combined with the torso of a IG commander and plastic arms.

Very happy with how these two turned out.

The very first of 2020

As I finished 2019 with an eldar I felt it would be appropriate to start the new year with an another space elf. So my first model to be finished in 2020 is this Eldar Champion.

Bareheaded he has an eye implant of some sort. For weaponry he wields a hand flamer and a power fist. His stance is a bit stiff but I like the model anyway.

Heavy support

As per rules RT era IG support weapons must be crewed by tactical squads, assault squads, Adeptus Mechanicus or servitors. As I do not want to invest in a seperate squad to man the support weapons I intend to use the servitors I have in that role. Because of their cybernetic enhancements each servitor count as two crewmen.

The first support weapon of Bravo Company is this twin multi melta armed Tarantula. The equipment profile in rules for Tarantula gives las cannon as the only weapon option but won´t let that bother me. And I like the fact that my 2nd Tactical Platoon has multi meltas as heavy weapons too. Supported by this Tarantule they propably are the anti-tank detachment of the Company.

Pretty simple paint job: Desert yellow spray for base, black for body and metal for

guns. Light shading with Agrax and the highlights with diluted  Kislev Flesh.

A little bit of red, green and yellow to bring out some details. The servitor

and his pals are presented here.

The Walking Egg

Still trying to gather my strenght to go on with assault squad troopers. So I started working on this RT era IG Sentinel aka The Walking Egg and finished it during last weekend. Paint scheme is the same as with the rest of the force: desert yellow, black and metal with some brown for leather. 

 

 The sentinel is armed with scatter laser. The drivers personal close protection

weapon - a las pistol - hangs on the side of the cockpit.

 

 There is an alternative helmet headed driver also available for

this sentinel but I don´t have one. I like the way this guy is resting his arm

on the side of the hull.

 

The round things - which I suppose are lights of some sort - just below the scatter laser

and the big imperial eagle on the nose give this sentinel a ´face´.

 

 

Now let´s see if I can bring myself to finish that assault squad - it´s just a couple of models...

Happy Easter!

Celebrating Easter with completion of 1st Squad 2nd Tactical Platoon. As those old Imperial Guard Grenadiers are pretty rare models I chose alternative armament for this platoon´s heavy weapon troopers. The grenade launchers are replaced with heavy bolters and las cannons with multi meltas. The same will go throughout the entire platoon including command section.

 

 All ten of them. Green is the signature color of 2nd platoon

and the troopers carry that color on their chest badge.

Heavy weapons. That multi melta sura is a big thing.

Being somewhat fed up with those plastic troopers I think I need to paint some command section models next. Or perhaps the Company commander himself.

Adeptus Mechanicus Section

These four models make up my Bravo Company´s Adeptus Mechanicus Section. As the force includes penal battallions troops and a human bomb as per rules it needs a Tech Priest to rig and control the explosive collars and bomb harnesses.

 

 Adeptus Mechanicus and his three Servitors. Is´t nice how

the power armored and power axe wielding AM stands a head taller

than everyone else.

 

The Adeptus Mechanicus is obviously a Bob Olley sculpt.

And in my opinion one of his best.

 

 These three servitors are Confrontation (Necromunda) tech ganger.

Did some kitbashing and gave them modernish Tau arms and equipment

to make them look more cybernetic. They all wear some red to mark them

as possibly unreliable as judged by the Inquisition/Commissars.

 

The guy that goes BOOM!

Because of me being on a work trip abroad it´s been a week of very little painting and blogging. So it´s only a single completed model this time. But it´s not just any model but quite a controversial one. At least on this day standards. You know, this was totally acceptable back in the 80´s.

 

This is a human bomb drawn from the rank of the penal battallions. These are individual who seek to atone for their sin agains the Emperor By serving as human bombs. The moment a penitent dons an explosive harness , he is absolved By the Emperor. A human bomb may also be freed as some of the harnesses are rigged not to explode.

 

A human bomb is unarmed if that bomb harness is not counted in. Behind him

is a WIP adeptus mechanicus tech  priest. He is needed for rigging the bomb harness.

 

I don´t think any gaming Company would lauch this product these days.

How I speed paint my IG

Being a very mediocre painter myself I haven´t dared to do any painting guides. Not before this. I felt that this way of speed painting desert themed Imperial guard deserves to be shared.

After assembling the model I spray it with Army Painter Desert Yellow for base coating.

If the spray doesn´t reach every spot I fix those places with a brush.

Gaiters, belt pouches and other leathery equipment are painted brown

with Citadel Mournfang Brown.

Boots and flak vest are painted black. Face and hands get treated

with Cadian Fleshstone.

Leadbelcher for lasgun, helmet and bayonet/knife.

Everything is shaded with Agrax Earthshade and when it´s dried

I use Armageddon Dunes texture for the base.

Finishing touches include highlighting black parts with Eshin Grey.

Camo suit is highlighted with Kislev Flesh. I´ve been using Air version of that

as it´s thin enought to be used straight out of bottle. Goggles are given a

touch of Tin Bitz to make then stand out a bit.

Quick and dirty - not anything fancy as you can see but does the trick. Excluding drying time I think it takes me something like 30min to paint a single trooper like this.

Commissar and a penitent

Due to being ill - first with flu and then with norovirus - both painting and blogging have been on pause for several days. As I´ve been feeling a lot better since yesterday I did some modeling glueing arms and weapons to IG troopers and then base coating roughly 20 models. Eventually I found myself working on these two old sculpts which got finished today.

A commissar is of course a must for any IG force. I gave mine a HUGE power glove

and a las pistol. Penal trooper is armed with just the simple las gun.

I did not want to do a general all Black commissar so I went with the desert theme. Some Black details are there - mainly the hat - to make sure he stands out as a commissar. Penal trooper is recognizeable by his bald head, red vest and explosive collar around his neck.

I have a lot of RT era IG stuff that I´m working on currently: assault paltoon, penal squad, a couple of servitors, another tactical platoon and that thing you can see blurred on the background of these pictures.

Speed painted Imperial guard

One of my all time favorite White Dwarf articles is the Imperial Guard from WD109. I´ve had some RT era IG models around for quite some time and with the eldar force growing felt I needed something to be fielded against them. These are speed painted - at least on my scale. Roughly 45 minutes per model excluding drying time. So don´t expect to see anything fancy here.

 

 

First five models: two normal troopers, grenadier, las cannon trooper and a sergeant.

 

 

The desert theme came from a Only War campaing I´m playing with my friends. Squad markings on the blue badges still need to be done.

 

 

Undercoating with Army painter Desert yellow spray. Cadian fleshstone for flesh, Leadbelcer for helmet, gun, knife and other metal parts, Mournfang brown for ammo pouches, gaiters and other leathery equipment and finally black for flak vest and shoes.

 

 

Washed flesh with Reiklland fleshshade and everything else with Agrax. Black parts highlighted with Eshin gray. Clothes with watered down Kislev flesh.

 

 

Five more ordinary troopers and I have a full tactical squad.
