A step closer to having a maniple

The robot rules in the Compendium book state that robots are usually organized into maniples of four machines and an adeptus mechanicus technician. And it also says that it´s unusual to have different types of robot in a maniple but weapon variations are more common.

The prices for Imperial robot at ebay are quite... horrendous. I don´t think I´ll even be able to have a four model strong maniple of robots of same type. I was happy to have a single robot and when I was offered another one for very good price, I immediately grabbed it even if it was of different type than the first one I had.

Here´s the new one. It´s a Castellan class general purpose combat and assault robot.

I tried to do my version of this paint scheme. Didn´t dare to try the chess board -thingie on the arms and power gloves. Those striped legs were hard enough for me.

Right side view.

And left side too.

Finally the newcomer with the Conqueror class one I painted earlier.
And their squat adeptus mechanicus caretaker.

Band of Beastmen

Boosting the ranks of my Genestealer Cult Army is a six strong band of beastmen. Or slaangors as the Slaanesh beastmen are also called. Pastel colors, black leather and some pink/purple to tie the band together.

The new guys are in the front row. The three in the back were presented here.

Left: CH4 Chaos Beastman Atzel. Middle: C27 Slugman. Right: RoC Slaanesh Beastman

That Slugman is one bizarre sculpt. It even has a second face in it´s chest.
Extra head and headless mutations perhaps.

Perhaps some IG next. I have something biggish waiting to be glued together and primed.

Brood Brothers done

With two Brood Brother bands painted and me starting to run out of IG models it´s time to move on. Next it´s going to be a couple of beastmen and then I´m going to start with genestealer hybrids, purestrains etc.

These models were painted with Citadel Contrasts as was the band number one. White base coat, Magis purple clothes, Snakebite leather for gaiters, belts and pouches, Nazdreg yellow armor and helmet, Black Templar shoes and Guilliman flesh hands and face. Metal parts are Leadbelcher washed with agrax.

Brood Brother band number two. All six as is the sacred number of Slaanesh.

Over sized and pretty corny - quite oldhammerish I believe.

Wanted to do my version of the Brood Brother from WD 116.

Expanding the Cult

Presenting the latest additions to slowly growing Genestealer coven: four brood brothers and three beastmen. All Slaanesh alligned of course. Both groups will eventually be six strong but I lack beastman models at the moment and I need to assemble two guardsmen before finishing the brood brother squad. And I´m thinking of converting one brother into a standard bearer.

First the three beastmen. All bare brested slaanishian hermaphrodites. The much younger me had clipped the weapons of those two on the right ´cause I used them as Blood Bowl players. Both got swords in this new role of theirs. The shields are pretty terrible but that´s the best I can do freehand.

Brood Brothers. Four metal Imperial Guard/Army models. Very quick to paint with contrasts. As the only weapon choise for Brood Brothers in a developed world is stub gun and sword all those las guns etc. are concidered counts as a stub gun.

Everyone in a group picture.

Summoned Daemonette for Genestealer cult army

When I kind of accidentally began building a Oldhammer Genestealer Cult army I knew I want it to be Slaaneshian. Slaanesh has always been my favorite chaos deity. And to bring more of that chaos into the force I´ve added now a single summoned Daemonette. Acquired this model through a trade and painted him/her/it to match the few cultist I completed earlier.

"Forward you puny mortalssss!".

Contrast paints over White Seer base. Pink, black, blue and white contrasts. Some leadbelcher for metal details. Agrax for added shading and regular white for highlights. Black leather and pink skin ties this model to the rest of the still small force.

The model is named Suckflesh in the catalogue. Rest of the daemonettes have rather nice names too.

The daemonette range of ´88 from WD106. Because of the stance and mohican hair I would say that Suckflesh was sculpted by Jes Goodwin for sure.

Contrasty Scarlocs´ Archers

It sure has been a while since I worked on fantasy elves. As you know it´s been all eldar and IG as of lately. But I´ve had these Scarlocs´ archers sitting around in their original box since late 80´s and finally with arrival of those contrast paints I got myself together to actually throw some color on them.

So it´s only ten models now and that leader is not Scarloc himself but an ancient Legolas from a Lord of the Rings box I bought back in the days. Far from the best Scarlocs´ you´ll see around but I´m pleased with them as I wanted to test how fast I can make table top ready models with those contrasts. I wouldn´t hesitate pushing these around on a battle field.

Not going to set myself any deadlines here but I think I´ll have a beginning of a wood elf force here. It´s just 20 more archers and a general to meet the 3rd edition minimas. We´ll see what happens as I have a couple of other project going on too.

All completed models so far. Some shields are still missing. Will add them later.

A closer look at some of the troopers and the standard.

I general I´m really happy with the way those contrasts work for this kind of mass painting. The result is just good enough for gaming and you can make units quite fast compared to regular paints. Just sprayed base on a few more Scarlocs´, a wardancer and a couple of other elves.
