Plasma on the double

 Yet another month of not much painting. Work and other responsibilities came in the way of hobby activities once again. Just two models finished. Both Rogue Trader range minis and both wielding a plasma gun.

As you can see I´m using Space Marine packs for jump pack on the assault troopers.

Scouts and Scorpions

 I have been quite busy with work and haven´t had much mojo for hobby activities. Despite that I´ve slammed some paint on few bases of Epic eldar to keep something going.

On the left are four bases of eldar scouts. Painted in the same pattern as my guardians but wearing a desert yellow camo cloak on their back. Strinking scorpions were given typical green armour but I chose to paint their helmets white to have some unifying element with the rest of the force. I think I´ll follow the same system for the rest of the aspect warriors I´ll paint in the future.

A couple of support units and a warlock

 These three little (pun intended) additions will take my epic eldar army to 2900 points. And I could finish those vibro cannons in perhaps 30 mins if I wanted to and have a 3000 point strong army ready. But I´m at the same time working on some genestealers so it may take a while. On the other hand I scored some aspects warriors and other stuff I was missing so I´ll eventually take this project to somewhere around 4000-5000 points I think.

and having enough special/detachment cards should not be an issue.

Eldar defender warhost

 Eighteen stands of eldar guardian equals a full defender warhost. Worth 450 points in 2nd edition Epic. I gave each detachment a banner with warhost spot color (black) and detachment number on it. With these and black shouder pads one should be able to separate these stands from the eldar warhost guardians I painted earlier.

I´m getting very close to having a 3000 point eldar army completed. With a warlock, war walkers and some support guns I´m working on I should get there sooner than later. If I wanted (and had motivation) I could upgrade these to a eldar warhost by adding nine Falcon grav tanks. Remains to be seen...

A guardian host in making

 Just a quick update. I´m working on an eldar guardian host for epic. Eighteen stands of infantry. It´s quite an easy job but quite dull too. Basing, red base, white helmets, metal guns, black shouders pads  and then highlight with lighter red. As my war host infatry wears all red armor I wanted to add those black shoulder pads to show that these guardian belong to a different unit.

As you can see I´m painting a detachment of war walkers too. The guardian

detachments will have a flag each with a number of detachment on it.

And I painted a 28mm guadian too to show the small scale of epic infantry.

Epic Eldar warhost

 Most of this unit was painted a few months back but I realised that there was not enough infantry stands. So I picked up my brushes and finished the few stands needed. Red, white and gun metal washed with Agrax. Highlight with white and brighter red. Armageddon Dust technical on base.

Complete with 18 eldar guardian stands and 9 Falcon grav-tanks. The guardians are

armed with lasguns or shuriken catapults with 50cm range. They have 10cm movement, 

no saving throw, CAF 0, one attack dice and 5+ roll to hit with no save mod.

A closer look at the grav-tanks. Armed with lascannon that has 75cm range, one attack dice,

4+ roll to hit and save mod. of -2. Movement is 25cm, sacing throw 3+ and CAF +1.

Thay can also carry 2 stands of infantry and are skimmers.

Made up of 18 troop stands and 9 Falcon grav-tank an Eldar warhost is worth 850 points.

If you lose 14 models out of 27 in the host you will need to check for morale.

If broken your opponent will get 9 victory points.

Epic eldar spirit host

 As mentioned ia an earlier posting I´m working on a small 2nd edition Epic eldar force along side with other hobby projects. Today I finished a spirit host for that army. A spirit host consists of a warlock, four bases of wraithguard and two squads of dreadnoughts with for dreads in each.

 A friend of mine and me are planning on playing some 2nd edition Epic late this summer. He has a largeish squat force he´s had since 90´s and I´m slowly building an eldar army for the battle. I needed a center piece and what better to serve in that role than a Phantom titan.

Epic eldar walkers

 My focus has been on expanding the high elf baggage train but I´ve managed to slap some paint on other things too. Here are some epic eldar dreadnoughts and a towering destroyer knight I finished the other day.

The middle one is in it´s original pose. The other two had their

limbs and las cannon slightly repositioned for more dynamic look.

Epic eldar units

 Here´s some Epic Eldar units I´ve completed. Found my 2nd edition Epic Space Marine set from my parent place the other day. It´s not complete but the rules are there. And some of the other stuff. What I need are the unit cards and rules for eldar. Anyone willing to sell theirs?

Small space elfs

 Needed a break from painting WFB Chaos so I dug out some epic eldar I aquired a few weeks back. We used to play 2nd ed Epic Space Marine quite a lot back in the day but it has been more than 25 years since the last battle. Then in the 90´s I had a space marine force (Blood Angels) and there are still some of those left somewhere. Yet as an opprtunity presented itself I could not help myself but buy those space elfs.

So far just a few bases of guardians, two falcon grav tanks, a dreadnought and a spirit warrior.

I think I have models for a war host of 12 guardian bases and 9 tanks.

Those details are quite small.

Five years of blogging

 I almost forgot that today is the 5th anniversary of this blog. And because of that I haven´t prepared anything special for the occation... Quite pathetic if you ask me.

I was however able to complete something that I haven´t been painting for some time now. A space elf commader in carapace armor and wielding chain sword and a shuriken pistol.

Painted in the same read and white pattern as the rest of my space elves.

Finding Nemo (or Xeno)

Sometimes all you need is a little push in the right direction. For me that push was the facebook discussion in Oldhammer Community after my previous posting. One of the gentlemen there mentioned that he has an eldar dreadnought to paint but was intimidated by the big empty space on the head piece. I had been putting off painting my dreadnought for quite a long time for that same reason. I just had to take the bull by the horns and get painting.

I´m quite pleased with the way this model turned out. When I showed the head piece to one of my friends he immediately named it Nemo.  I can undertand why. It was not intentional but I think it look pretty cool. Might carry that pattern over to the war walker I had there waiting to get paint on itself.

Need to do the base later. I´ll be adding some extra weight to it as the model is pretty front heavy.

Space Elves so far

LM requested a gruop shot of all my painted RT Eldar and today I´m fullfilling that request. These have never been any sort of main project for me but more like a take-a-break-from-something-else-and-paint-a-couple type of thing. The very first were painted late in 2018 and there are now 25 painted models all together.

I have a few space elf models still left, most notably a dreadnought and a war walker. And I´d like to get me a jet bike or two someday.

Space elves come in threes

To be exact this time it´s four models. But only two of them are space elves to be precice. Anyway I have added a trooper, a heavy wepon and it´s operator and a robot to my RT era eldar force. Too big to be called a kill team and too small for an army I think I need to take a group shot of everyone in the near future.

Yet another trio of Space Elves

 These three chaps from left to right are Eoan Fireheart, an unnamed Space Elf field artillery crew member and Gaedhil Quickshadow

 Eoan´s sculpt left me confused in the beginning. He´s wearing the same armot type as the heavy weapon troopers but wielding a shuriken catapult and a lasgun. That just didn´t seem right to me. The artillery crew member in the middle must be the most 80´s model in this series - just look at that hair, visor, boots and jacket. Just amazing. Gaedhil is another trooper in what I think is a carapace armor. He´s equiped with laspistol and shuriken pistol/catapult.

So here´s the explanation for that armor and equipment. He´s a major hero wearing powered armor. That weapon list is something: force sword and four hand guns. And a bolt pistol on a Space elf. That´s heresy right there.

 Took this picture mainly to show you that targeting system the artillery operator in the middle is carrying. It reminds me of a optic rangefinder with those set apart "eyes". Because a normal laser range finder just isn´t cool enough...

LM asked for a group photo of all the space elves I´ve completed so far. Guess I´ll fulfill that wish soon...

More Space Elves

As I´m still out of Desert Yellow Spray that I need for my IG I´m painting some Space Elves instead. These are just wonderful models that are a joy to paint. Sculpts by the one and only Jes Goodwin ofcourse.

All three are in my usual eldar red and white scheme. Armor is Mephisto red shaded with Agrax and then washed with Bloodletter glaze. Highlights were done with Wild rider red. Helmets are light gray base with Agrax shading. And then pure white in several thin layers on that. Metal parts were painted with Leadbelcher and shaded with Agrax.

The very first of 2020

As I finished 2019 with an eldar I felt it would be appropriate to start the new year with an another space elf. So my first model to be finished in 2020 is this Eldar Champion.

Bareheaded he has an eye implant of some sort. For weaponry he wields a hand flamer and a power fist. His stance is a bit stiff but I like the model anyway.

The very last of 2019

As I was unable to continue with my Imperial Guard due to running out of desert yellow spray this eldar proto-guardian gets to be the last miniature I complete this year. Returning to work after holidays tomorrow I seriously doubt being able to painting anything more before the year changes.

This chap got the same red, white and metal scheme as the few eldar I´ve painted before. He´s actually a standard bearer model and I even have the back mounted banner pole for him but decided not to use that yet.

Some leathery pouches on the backside. The large knob for standard pole is quite visible.

Eldar/Cylon/Torquemada

When painting this RT era eldar musician I really had to fight the urge to make him shiny Silver. The reason for that can be seen below.

 

 

Yes - he immediately reminded me of my favorite TV show of my childhood - Battlestar Galactica. And I mean the original 1978 series.

 

 

The cylon helmet is a LOT like the one on that Jes Goodwin sculpted space elf. As are the shoulder pads and arm greaves too. When discussing this with my friends it was Traject0ry who then showed me the following picture.

 

 

I already knew that 2000ad comics had big influence on early Games Workshop/Citadel products but just look at that. High pointy helmet, something of a respiratory device and that rune on forehead - pretty space elfish arent they?

 

Could it just be that Jes got his inspiration for eldar scupts from one of these sources... What do you think?
